Helen Young – Counsellor

About me
I am passionate about eliminating any kind of stigma and in particular with regards to mental health. Having faced and overcome my own mental health battle in 2005, I began to appreciate the power of the mind and how it can easily control us, both positively and negatively. I was lucky enough to work with a counsellor who I felt connected to and who helped me work through past issues whilst encouraging me to discover myself and what makes me tick. Life has a habit of throwing us hurdles and I have learnt to appreciate each one as an opportunity to learn and grow as a person although that is easier said than done at times. Coming out the other side of my own struggles, I felt that I wanted to give something back and after studying GCSE Psychology, I began my counselling training journey in 2011. Qualified since 2014, I completed my degree in counselling last year and will soon start working towards my BACP Accreditation. I feel honoured and blessed to have worked with each and every one of my clients. My experience includes working with clients aged 11+ presenting with a range of issues from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bullying, self-harm, suicide, sexuality, loss (including bereavement and life changes) and relationship issues such as separation and divorce to name but a few. I have also worked with clients on the autistic spectrum and with hearing and sight impairments. I am here to offer you a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore whatever is going on for you. I won’t tell you what to do, I can’t ‘fix’ it for you but I can stand beside you on your journey as you discover what is right for you.

My Therapy Practice

Counselling offers the opportunity for you to explore whatever is going on for you with someone who listens carefully to you. It can be a space for self-reflection, exploration and self-development. As your counsellor, I will provide you with a safe, quiet space which is free from judgements and pre-conceptions, a place where you can talk freely and be heard. I will not give you advice or tell you what to do but I will be with you to help you on your personal journey as you explore and make your own decisions. I work as an integrative, relational counsellor which means that I combine a range of different approaches in order to support you in a way which works best for you. Please contact me by telephone or email if you have any questions or would like to arrange an initial session to give you the opportunity to meet me and get a sense of whether you feel counselling will be right for you at this time. In addition to my private practice, I work as a counsellor for a local charity providing free counselling for young people between the ages of 11-16 and a mental health charity providing free counselling for individuals aged 17 and above.
